As one of the most recognizable and influential annual events in global gaming and digital entertainment industry today, over 600 renowned companies participated this year, including nearly 400 B2B exhibitors, a 30% increase year-on-year. Visitors are from 31 countries and regions, including the USA, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, Japan, the UAE, Australia, Belgium, South Korea, Malaysia, Portugal, Turkey, and Singapore, marking a 40% rise in participating countries from 2023 and 2022. In addition to traditional topics like anime and esports, this year’s ChinaJoy also featured new topics such as AICG (AI-Generated Content) and game empowerment.
The gaming industry remains lucrative, despite global economic downturns. The U.S. leads in game revenue, with Q1 2024 mobile game earnings exceeding $6.4 billion, driven by casual and hybrid games. 61% of Americans play games for over an hour weekly. In the CIS region, Russia’s game downloads topped Europe, making it the fastest-growing market. According to Statista, Russia’s gaming user penetration will reach 21.8% in 2024 and is expected to grow to 24.1% by 2027. In the first half of 2023, Chinese game companies dominated Russia’s top 30 mobile game revenue list, contributing over 40%, followed by Russian local game companies, with a significant contribution from heavy games. In the Asia-Pacific region, India led global mobile game downloads in 2023. EY’s March 2024 “Media and Entertainment Report” predicts the industry will reach ₹269 billion ($3.2 billion) by the end of 2024 and grow at a 21% CAGR (2024–2028), reaching ₹388 billion ($4.7 billion) by 2026. In Indonesia, mobile games also dominate the market. According to data.ai, six of the top 10 revenue-generating apps in Indonesia in 2023 were mobile games.
